Special Needs Program
Superstars is a place where ones individual ability, rather than their disability, will be the focus.
Arts in Action has a heart and passion that all individuals have the opportunity to study the arts regardless of race, religion, or economic status. That is why they offer a unique and exceptional arts program for children and adults with special needs. Under the direction of certified instructor Joni Cantrell, Founder and Executive Director of AinA, the SuperStars program offers dance and music classes to children as young as six and adults of all ages. This unique Superstars program began their fourth year this past September and facilitate arts education for children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities as well as those with physical limitations. The program is also designed to foster social interaction and assist with fine and gross motor skills.
Superstars is a place where a person’s individual ability rather than their disability will be the focus. Opportunities are created for each SuperStar to excel according to their personal skills. SuperStars classes are a place where it will not only be ok to be yourself but where it will be celebrated. By featuring and focusing on each individual’s strengths, the program allows each Superstar participant to gain confidence and shine based on their unique gifts and talents.
Arts in Action SuperStars was an answer to prayer for our family several years ago. Our special needs daughter loves music and we were looking for a dance or music program that she could participate in. She is in her twenties but functions at a preschool level so finding programs for her are very hard. I messaged Arts in Action on their Facebook page one evening asking if they had such programs. Within minutes Joni Cantrell replied that they did have programs for special needs children and adults! She also said the programs have “buddies” for each student. These “buddies” are paired with the students and help with all aspects of the learning experience. Tears of joy flowed that evening for this momma! Our daughter has been participating in the SuperStars program for many years now and LOVES it! Another blessing of being with Arts in Action is that everything is done with Christ at the center. Our daughter loves the prayers before and after class, the faith centered music and the love the teacher and “buddies” have for her.
