Programs and Ministries

Masterpiece is a comprehensive dance program offering training in Classical Ballet, Pointe/Toe, Modern, Lyrical, Contemporary, Jazz, Holy Hip-Hop, Tap, Adult Lyrical and Tap, and Mommy and Me. Classes for beginner dancers to advanced level, ages 2-adult are taught by a highly-skilled and passionate faculty dedicated to excellence in skill technique, creativity and artistic expression.

The Word in Movement

The Word in Movement is an annual recital showcasing the participants of the Masterpiece dance program in a variety of dance pieces. All pieces are original works choreographed by a faculty member of Arts in Action.

Urban Stage

Urban Stage is an arts program offered to all youth regardless of race, religion and economic status. It is especially structured to offer programming to the underprivileged and at risk youth who otherwise would not be afforded the opportunity to study the arts. Students of the program receive professional instruction from qualified and caring faculty members at no cost. The students are featured at Christmas and in the Spring in a dinner style performance for family, friends, and the community, complete with costumes, props and stage decorations.

Living Colors

Living Colors is a visual arts education program where each student receives personal instruction in a classroom setting. Building on a solid foundation, the nine-month program trains students in elements and principles of design and color theory. The program culminates with an art exhibit that will be held in conjunction with the “Word in Movement” annual recital in May.

Crescendo Music Education

Crescendo is a music program that is designed to introduce and develop skills in a variety of instruments. Group and Private lessons are offered to meet the needs of the student. Guitar, Piano, Drums and Voice lessons are available in private lessons. Through partnerships with Appalachian Children’s Chorus, we are able to offer educational opportunities in choir, as well as performance opportunities.

Superstars is a place where a child’s individual ability rather than their disability will be the focus. Opportunities will be created for each child to excel according to their personal skills. Superstar’s class will be a place where it will not only be ok to be yourself, but where it will be celebrated. By featuring and focusing on each child’s strengths, the program will allow each Superstar participant to gain confidence and shine based on their unique gifts and talents.

While many children with disabilities deal with isolation and loneliness which often results from feeling different, Superstars will give kids a safe place to be different and to express their emotions and thoughts through the arts. Those with speech and language challenges who struggle to verbally express themselves will have the opportunity to do so through the arts. In this way the program is designed to be an outlet for children who are often frustrated about their inability to share what is on their minds.

We are going to have a wonderful time of fun, make new friends, learn through the arts, and celebrate that we are all God’s Superstars.

Crescendo Company for Christ (C3)

The Crescendo Company for Christ (C3) is the Show Choir Program of Arts in Action. Being taught with a Christian influence, students learn the artistic form of combining choral with dance in a team performance.

There are two Show Choir seasons per academic year, each concluding with a performance event. The first season is from September through December’s performance at “A Gift of Christmas Music” recital (date TBA) and the second season is from January through May’s performance at the “Arts Celebration” recital on May 18, 2019.
